Record number of cruise ships scheduled to sail into Holyhead this year
It’s been revealed that 44 cruise ships are due to sail into Holyhead over the course of the year, bringing more than 20,000 passengers to Anglesey with an estimated tourism windfall of more than £2m. This is an increase of 47% in the number of cruise ships and 60% on passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.
The cruise ships will dock at the Orthios (formerly Anglesey Aluminium) berth, as well as the refit berth. The Celebrity Silhouette, the largest ship due to dock, will be anchored in the outer harbour with passengers brought ashore by tender.
Cllr Richard Dew, Economic Development portfolio holder, said “It’s great to see our annual cruise programme going from strength to strength. We’ll be welcoming more ships and passengers than ever before during 2017, as Anglesey cements its position as Wales’ premier cruise port destination”.
“The Island and wider North West Wales region boasts a fantastic tourism package and we look forward to ensuring our visitors receive a warm Welsh Welcome”.
This comes as positive news for Anglesey and Orthios, further endorsing the importance of the Holyhead port as an international visitor gateway.
